This website provides information for adults, carers and professionals living and working in Coventry. It is a partnership project between Coventry Adult Social Care and Policy Partners Project, which was initially funded by the Department of Health (now the Department of Health and Social Care). It aims to make information and guidance about the Mental Capacity Act 2005 more accessible and easily understood by everyone involved.
The Act applies to everyone who works with or cares for a person (including a family member) who is over the age of 16, and who may lack ‘mental capacity’ to make specific decisions. The person may not be able to make a decision because they have a learning disability, mental health problem, brain injury, dementia or because they have had a stroke.
Click the Adults & Carers button below for information about mental capacity and what support is available.
Click the Professionals button below for information for health and social care staff, who have specific responsibilities when they are involved in the care, support and treatment of people who are unable to make all or some decisions for themselves.
